How to plan for your first Safari

Africa is the go-to safari destination for many people who are hungry for adventure and excitement. Whether you want a romantic getaway with your loved one, or you are planning a family holiday, East Africa Adventure has it all. It doesn’t matter if you are planning your first-time safari or if you’re a Serengeti connoisseur, we can help you plan the perfect tour.

Choose your destination

East Africa Adventure provides a great choice of safaris and tours at a number of locations. Kenya and Tanzania are popular choices for those who are discovering East Africa for the very first time, with beautiful scenery and spectacular spots for game viewing. If you’d like a longer trip, our combined tours merge the highlights of both Tanzania and Kenya for an unforgettable experience.

East Africa Adventure also offers specialised safaris in Gorilla Trekking through Rwanda to Uganda, where bold explorers can see monkeys and gorillas in their natural habitat, along with other African animals, such as lions, wildebeest and giraffes.

Mount Kilimanjaro is an incredible backdrop for the majority of our tours and excursions, and with us you can take a climbing safari of the tallest mountain in Africa. If completed, you will be rewarded with views unparalleled to anywhere else in the world, as well as a certificate!

Pick how long to go on safari

With a range of safari lengths, you could include an excursion as part of your holiday or make a tour your entire African adventure. One day excursions are available with us in Nairobi, Kenya. See the flamingos of Lake Nakuru, the endangered antelope of Shimba Hills or the elephant herds of Tsavo. Include a day-trip as part of your holiday, ensuring you don’t miss the best parts of Kenya. Browse our handpicked Kenya safari holidays.

One of our shorter tours lasts for four days, exploring Ngorongoro and the Serengeti in Tanzania. This once in a lifetime trip is great for families with young children, or as a gateway into East Africa for safari beginners. Take a peek at the incredible variety of wildlife experiences on offer in our range of Tanzania safari tours.

Naturally, the longer the tour you choose the more you get to experience, however we always ensure you get the most out of the adventure you decide to embark on. Find the trip of your dreams, go online to discover the full range of African safari packages.

What should you pack?

Now that you’ve chosen which part of East Africa you would like to explore first, and how long your trip will last, it is time to start packing. Green, tan and khaki clothes are ideal for reflecting light and for blending into the scenery whilst viewing game. Clothes should be made from breathable fabrics as it can get quite hot. Binoculars and insect repellent are always good to have on hand as well as a camera to capture the unique moments you’ll experience on your trip. Immunisations should be up to date before you arrive in Africa, but it is suggested you bring medicine such as paracetamol or Imodium, so illness does not hinder your adventure.

As part of your safari, East Africa Adventure provide your meals and your accommodation. Ensure you pack light as there will be a lot of travelling, especially on our longer tours.
